In January this year a German porn performer, Carolin Ebert, died from a botched breast ‘enhancement’ operation (this was the sixth operation she had undergone), but it’s not that fact that I want to draw particular attention to here (which doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s a terrible and tragic waste, it is, but it isn’t just women in the sex industry who undergo cosmetic surgery, or who suffer injury, disfigurement and death from such surgeries. I want to draw attention to something she suffered specifically for being in the sex industry).

There is no other ‘industry’ where abuse and injury is the ‘work’, rather than an unnecessary and avoidable by-product of it. (The military comes close, but even then, being a soldier isn’t being given money in exchange for deliberately stepping on a land mine, or deliberately allowing yourself to be shot. Plus, the general public gives a shit about soldiers, and PTSD in soldiers is taken seriously, and not blamed on the soldiers themselves for their own individualised ‘bad choices’, but recognised as a consequence of being a soldier.)
This is hardly a one-off. In the documentary Sex: The Annabel Chong Story, the ‘gang bang’ being filmed had to stop when Annabel started to bleed internally. Dr Sharon Mitchell, of the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation, in one of the documentaries I have seen her in, said she was regularly performing surgery to fix women’s prolapsed anuses.

Not just that, but the damaged female body itself is a turn on, these sites weren’t punter forums where men laughed about what they heard had happened to a woman in porn, it was images of damaged female bodies themselves being offered up as wank material.)

Anyway, prolapse porn with female animals has been going on for some time. Female horses have been found with their anuses mutilated and carved out bloody, usually as they are staggering to death some time after the abuse, what with ranchers and farmers not checking on them everyday. This is absolutely true. And absolutely why it is so important for us, as women, to talk about it, to point out exactly why porn violates our rights (or rather the rights we should have!) and contributes to, and acts as a mirror for, our oppression.

Yes indeed men who join the military enact a ‘choice’ and yet when these self-same men are killed fighting for other men’s right to invade and colonise other countries we never hear excuses such as ‘but the male soldier chose to become a solider and therefore he is responsible or partially to blame for not enacting sufficient safeguards to prevent him being killed.’ What happens is male supremacy claims these male soldiers are all ‘heroes and family men!’ Given some of these men have families why oh why are they in the military given they know the risks and what about their children. These men should be putting their children’s needs first not endangering their lives.
True there is no other industry wherein male sexual violence against women is claimed as ‘fantasy’ because women aren’t human and that is why the porn industry thrives because no humans were harmed when they were filmed being subjected to sadistic male sexual violence. That is why when two homeless males were deliberately exploited by the porn industry and horrors – subjected to sadistic sexual violence, pseudo feminists rushed to declare their outrage at such a violation of men’s human rights. Meanwhile back at the ranch it was business as usual for the porn industry – because no humans are harmed are they?
