QotD: “When you have a community that is more concerned with maintaining the reputation or the integrity of the group”
When you have a community that is more concerned with maintaining the reputation or the integrity of the group rather than the safety or protection of the individuals, you’re going to find a higher rate of sexual abuse. Whether that’s an old colony in a Mennonite community, whether that’s the Catholic Church, whether it’s the Penn State football program, whether it’s the U.S. military. If you have groups that believe that keeping themselves together as a group, and keeping that reputation is more important than limiting abuse that happens inside the community, then you’re going to have more crimes committed.
