QotD: “In porn, the women’s lack of human qualities often results in men’s inability to see just how violent the sex act is”

In porn, the women’s lack of human qualities often results in men’s inability to see just how violent the sex act is. No matter how cruel the sex, the one question I can always count on hearing from a man after my presentation is, “Women enjoy what they are doing, so why is porn a problem?” Of course, these men have no empirical evidence to support this, just their observations of the porn they masturbate to. When I ask them if they would like to see their wives, girlfriends, or sisters in this position—in an attempt to humanize the porn performers—they are quick to respond that their loved ones are different from the women in porn; their women would never “choose” such a job. The image these men seem to have of women in porn is of a woman accidentally stumbling onto a porn set one day, and realizing that this is what she has been looking for all her life. That these women are acting, and may have come to porn not so much through choice but due to lack of alternatives is rarely considered because this premise threatens to puncture the fantasy world created by both pornographer and user.

  1. Unfortunately, it all melts down to the fact, that men are just fuXXing idiots, and barely humans themselves. They cannot get it into their stupid brains, that woman is woman, and not split in madonnas and whores. As long as men are such idiots, as long women will have to suffer. Probably always, as male stupidity never seems to vanish. It always grows another ugly head.

  2. You only “choose” a job like that because there are no other choices, or the other choices are every bit as bad.

  3. I am so happy to have found this blog… I found My boyfriend following a hipersexualized girl profile on Instagram, she sells her pictures and videos on patreon, all in her profile is about her body and pleasing man… I told him My point of view and why did I see it as a problem, keep perpetuating the idea that women are to please men and just a body… he replied with “but she is making money so she is having power” …I was extremely disappointed with this answer as if money is the only thing a human needs to be ok… Then he said” we all sell our bodies in a way, like me , I am having all this stress, anxiety and back problems” … This answer just added more deception… I am actually really mad that accounts or images that portrait women just as a body to fuck, (I found one that is a girl washing clothes with her skirt down and her face inside the washing machine so her ass is what you see) can’t actually be reported , for Instagram “There is no issue with it”

  4. Hi Caroline,

The ‘making money’ argument covers up a lot of ills, women in prostitution and the traditional porn industry face violence, STI’s, and have high rates of PTSD.

Women using Onlyfans etc still face the risk of stalking, blackmail, loss of profit from stolen images, and self-injury through repetitive sex acts.

A woman in the UK died as a result of auto-asphyxiation, the man paying her to do it did nothing to help her, and watched (and presumably masturbated) while she died.

There is a difference between the risk of harm at work, and harm as work. Genuine health and safety and workers’ rights would make pornography and prostitution impossible.

  5. I started watching some interesting documentaries “Hot girls wanted” and “Hot girls wanted, turn on” which are extremely sad, I shared them on my WhatsApp stories and my Friends (just girls) asked me about them and where to watch them … One day later my boyfriend called me , told me he had watched the documentary and we speak a bit about it, he told me he is starting to be more critical about what he watch…

  6. Hi Caroline, I hope you and your boyfriend keep talking. There are resources for men in the sidebar on the right, under ‘What about the men?’ and also the category ‘male allies’.
